Venue: Ansteys Beach
Date: 20 September 2025
The IPSA Institute of KZN held its beach clean-up at Ansteys Beach on September 20, 2025. The clean-up was held in commemoration of World Recycling Week. Under the leadership of IPSA KZN Chairman Mr. Sumiran Singh, the event was attended by employees from MetPac-SA, IPSA, DUT, Packaging World, and Hirt and Carter.
The cold and windy weather did not deter the determination among the participants who were committed to cleaning up the waste at Ansteys Beach. Most of the waste collected was PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate), which included plastic bottles, yoghurt jars, caps, bags, and ice cream containers. The plastic pollution evident at Ansteys Beach was alarming and is clearly affecting marine life. Marine life remains vulnerable to plastic pollution, causing significant stress on the environment at large.
Waste Characterisation Report
Number of bags of waste collected – 12
% of waste collected that was PET – 90%
% of metal waste (1 Alu-can) – 1%
% of general waste – 9%
The IPSA Institute would like to acknowledge the delegates for their utmost support in showcasing their true commitment to environmental sustainability. The delegates were from MetPac-SA, IPSA, DUT, Packaging World, and Hirt and Carter.
The clean-up was a resounding success, and the beach was left clean and free of waste for marine life to thrive. Given the success, IPSA KZN rewarded the participants with a light meal and refreshments to express its gratitude. We thank all those who assisted IPSA KZN with this remarkable initiative that is driving positive change.
